The Bridge East Midlands commenced in 1995 as a small grassroots Christmas shelter for the homeless in Loughborough. Since then, the charity services and their reach have grown considerably to help those affected by homelessness in the local area. Preventing and overcoming homelessness services are tailored to ages upwards of 11 years old, and cover Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Additionally, a team of The Bridge volunteers with lived-experiences of homelessness, work in partnership every year with University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, adding relevant content to their social work degree courses.
Anyone can end up losing their home. Some of our clients are young people; some need support because of mental health challenges; some are on probation. But many are friends, colleagues or neighbours who happen to be in housing crisis. Our team treats each client as an individual – listening, empathising and offering practical support. Stopping homelessness before it starts is our aim. Everyone deserves a place to call home.
