Event info
RUN Leicester half marathon
The Run Leicester Half Marathon is our flagship event and will see thousands of runners take on the 13.1 mile distance. With roads closed for the duration of the event and plenty of entertainment to keep your legs moving, runners will have Leicester’s city streets all to themselves. Our much-loved half marathon route will start and finish at Victoria Park. To start, runners will head through the city and out along Leicester’s golden mile, before looping back in via Watermead Park and Abbey Park, after which we take in more of the city’s iconic landmarks before the final push up the idyllic New Walk, all the way to the finish line.
Run leicester 10k
Our Run Leicester 10k will take place alongside the Half Marathon all on the same day. Starting and finishing at Victoria Park, the Run Leicester 10k will follow the Half Marathon route up the Golden Mile as far as Loughborough Road, before passing The National Space Centre and the beautiful Abbey Park. Running back through the heart of the city centre with entertainment to keep you going you’ll face one last hill up the idyllic New Walk, all the way to the finish line. Both the 10k and the Half Marathon will start at 9:15am on Sunday 13th October.
Who can enter?
The Run Leicester Half is open to anyone and everyone over the age of 17, whilst the Run Leicester 10k is open to everyone over 15 years old. Whether you’re an avid runner or have just started out, Run Leicester is definitely the event for you. Nothing beats the atmosphere of a big city centre event and we’ll keep you moving all the way with high-energy entertainment from start to finish. The route is for the most part relatively flat, with the exception of one short hill just before the 8 mile mark in Birstall, and then the final mile up New Walk. We’re sure the adrenaline will kick in just time knowing that the finisher’s medal is just around the corner.
What is the route?
The race arena and both the start and finish are all situated in Victoria Park, just outside the city centre. Our current expectation is that the Half Marathon route will largely mirror the 2023 edition, however certain works within the city may require amendments to the course. We will release the final route in Spring 2024. For details of our route as it was in 2023 please click the link below.
The 10k route follows the same route as the Half Marathon but takes a short cut half way along Melton Road before re-joining the half marathon route on the canal path before the National Space centre.
